On June 13, 2017, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 5062, “Establishing Four Council Districts and Amending the El Cajon Municipal Code to provide for City Council Elections by District” with an El Cajon City Council District Map.

Background
A City-sponsored measure, called "Measure S", passed in the November 2016 general municipal election with 69% of the vote. As a result, it officially amended the City Charter to establish district elections within the City of El Cajon, beginning in 2018.
Beginning in January 2017, the City Council initiated a process to adopt a City Council District Boundary Map. The City was dedicated to make the entire process transparent, it hosted multiple workshops and hearings, and invited the public to submit draft boundary maps.
