The City of El Cajon hosts a number of special events throughout the year for our local community. These include free, family-friendly events such as America on Main Street, 4th of July Fireworks, and Hauntfest, and summer Movies in the Park. With something for everyone, we invite you to enjoy our wide variety of special events!
America on Main Street
America on Main Street is a celebration of the American spirit through appreciation and respect of the many diverse ethnic and historical groups in the community. Highlights from previous years include multiple stages of live entertainment, American and ethnic food booths, rides, arts, crafts and display booths, a petting zoo, a rock climbing wall and more!
This entertaining and exciting event takes place in Downtown El Cajon on East Main Street and the surrounding areas by Magnolia and Ballantyne. This event is held annually on Armed Forces Day on the third Saturday in May.

4th of July Fireworks
The 4th of July Fireworks is held annually at Kennedy Park and features food, games, prizes, kiddie train rides, and live musical entertainment. Kennedy Park is located at 1675 East Madison Avenue. Arrive early for the best parking and to claim your spot to watch the show!
Movies in the Park
The Parks and Recreation Department is proud to offer our Movies in the Park series at several of our city parks throughout the year, including a summer series that stretches from June to August as well as seasonal events in the fall and winter. Featuring family friendly movies, games, crafts, activities, and more, this popular event series is coming to a park near you! Check here for information on upcoming events.
Hauntfest on Main
Hauntfest on Main is an annual Halloween themed event held in Downtown El Cajon, on East Main Street and the surrounding areas by Magnolia and Ballantyne. This family friendly event features live music, costume contests, carnival rides, a haunted car show, and a variety of local vendors offering food, crafts, and more!

Winter Wonderland
Join us each December at Wells Park for the annual Winter Wonderland celebration. This popular event features a wide range of activities to get you and your family ready for the season. The family friendly event features photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, arts & crafts activities, a movie in the park, and more! For more information, please contact (619) 441-1754.
World Attempt Record
We’re attempting a World Record and we need your help! We want to beat the world record for the Most Dogs to Attend a Film Screening. That means we need over 219 dogs to break the record. Bring your dog and join us for a free outdoor movie showing Beethoven at Wells Park. There will also be other fun and activities for kids!
