Sewer Billing Update

In July 2020, the City of El Cajon began collecting sewer service charges on the County of San Diego property tax invoice. Rather than direct, bi-monthly invoicing, as previously done, these charges are now collected in two installments with the property tax bill.

Notification is sent each June to property owners summarizing the annual sewer service charges that will be included with the next County of San Diego property tax. This notification serves as a statement of the sewer service charges for the 12-month billing period from July 1st to June 30th of the following year.

Please note that this annual notice is NOT a bill.

The amount referenced must be paid with your annual San Diego County property tax bill that is typically issued in September. The first payment installment will be due by December and the second installment will be due by the following April, as directed on the tax bill.

Several accounts will continue to have manual bills created and delivered in a separate, but similar semi-annual billing process. These accounts are associated with properties that do not receive a tax bill. Examples include public entities such as government agencies and school districts. Also included with this method are several multi-family properties and homeowners associations (HOAs) with master water meters for their properties.
