The distribution and use of Crystal Methamphetamine remains a concern for law enforcement and citizens in El Cajon.  The use of methamphetamine has several negative impacts on our local community. Methamphetamine users frequently commit crimes while under the influence of the drug.  Additionally, Meth is highly addictive and will cause a myriad of serious health issues including, but not limited to, liver disease, heart disease, tooth decay, and skin lesions.

The El Cajon Valley has also experienced a heavy increase in Heroin.  Heroin is one of, if not the most dangerous of all street drugs.  Heroin is highly addictive and can be lethal in much smaller amounts than most street drugs.  Like meth, heroin users commit various crimes to support their narcotic habits.  Symptoms of people under the influence of heroin include:

• Small (constricted) pupils
• Dry mouth
• Shortness of breath
• Disorientation
• A droopy appearance
• Cycles of hyperactive behavior followed by nodding off

The above symptoms are not exclusive to heroin use, but can be signs of someone under the influence of the drug.  Some other indicators or signs of heroin use can be the various paraphernalia associated with the drug’s use.

• Needles or syringes not used for other medical purposes
• Burned silver spoons
• Aluminum foil or gum wrappers with burn marks
• Missing shoelaces (used as a tie off for injection sites)
• Straws with burn marks
• Small plastic bags, with white powdery residue
• Water pipes or other pipe
