The objective of the El Cajon Police Department’s volunteer programs is to provide auxiliary support services throughout the department. As a result, the police department is able to provide a higher level of service to the citizens of El Cajon while affording an opportunity for the volunteer to give back and make a difference in their community.
Volunteers come from all walks of life and bring with them an invaluable amount of knowledge and experience. The El Cajon Police Department is proud of our volunteers and the services they provide to the community.
Volunteer Opportunities include:
Police Cadets – Applicant age 16-20 years
Police Reserves
Mounted Police Reserves – Must provide own horse
Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol (RSVP)– Must be 50 years or older
Police Volunteer Unit – Clerical duties
Animal Control
Crime Lab Internship Program – Must be currently enrolled in a Forensic Technology Program

Applications are available at the El Cajon Police Department’s Information Desk, located at 100 Civic Center Way, El Cajon, CA 92020. Completed applications can be mailed, e-mailed, or dropped off in person to the Volunteer Coordinator.
Requirements
Volunteer applicants will be subject to a thorough background investigation, which will include a background interview, electronic fingerprints, records checks, and employer, school, and personal reference checks. Additional qualifications may be required for certain volunteer positions. Applicants must successfully complete the background investigation to be considered for any volunteer position within the El Cajon Police Department.
Applicants must be 18 years of age and possess a valid California Drivers License. Students requiring work experience for course credit, please be aware the application and background investigation process can take approximately six to eight weeks to complete.
