Operations includes the uniformed staff you see in the community and speak to on the phone. Patrol officers, dispatchers, and special enforcement squads are included in this division.

Rob Ransweiler

Operations Captain

Rob Ransweiler grew up in East County and graduated from El Capitan High School.  He has been with the El Cajon Police Department for 24 years.  He was selected for the Police Department’s Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) in 2002, served on the team for 15 years, and was the Team Commander when he left.  Rob was promoted to Sergeant in 2007, Lieutenant in 2013 and to Captain in 2018.

As an Officer, Rob worked as a Field Training Officer, a Detective, a Negotiator, and as a Facilitator.  As a Sergeant, he supervised the Traffic Division, the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team and the Crisis Negotiations Team. As a Lieutenant, Captain Ransweiler commanded the Crisis Negotiations Team, the community outreach program known as The Project, Inspections Training and Personnel Division, Internal Affairs and was the Public Information Officer. During his career he has been awarded the Medal of Valor, the Police Medal, four Meritorious Unit Citations and the Burn Institute Spirit of Courage Award. 

Rob is a graduate and a former auditor of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, Leadership East County and Leadership East County Masters programs as well as the San Diego County Regional Leadership Institute.
