On November 12, 2012, the park and plaza area outside of the Downtown El Cajon Civic Center became the “Centennial Plaza.” A special dedication ceremony took place during the Centennial Celebration Kick-Off Event as part of the legacy project of the Centennial Committee. A commemorative plaque has been placed near the stage marking the area as Centennial Plaza along with a medallion near the intersection of E. Main Street and Sulzfeld Way. In keeping with the goals of the City Council and the Centennial Committee, this legacy project was created to commemorate the City of El Cajon as “The Valley of Opportunity” with our community’s rich educational, cultural, historical, social and economic resources as well as leave a legacy for future generations. The Centennial Plaza will host community events, shows and gatherings, and will serve as a meeting place for the community. A stage and seating area, along with a water feature and landscaping, allow for a relaxing yet sustainable area.
On November 12, 2011, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the new El Cajon Police Station located at 100 Civic Center Way. The Centennial Plaza, located just outside the new Police Station and City Hall, is in close proximity to all other happenings in the heart of downtown El Cajon. In recognition of the City’s incorporation in 1912, we honor and celebrate the people who make El Cajon the Valley of Opportunity . . . yesterday, today and always!
